The Admiral’s Cup 2025 | Chris Nicholson Interview

49er World Champion and multiple Volvo Ocean Race participant Chris Nicholson has competed in numerous major international ocean races across the globe, but this is his first Admiral’s Cup. Chris is the tactician aboard Gordon Ketelbey’s TP52 Zen, working closely with renowned navigator Tom Addis. We caught up with Chris shortly before racing kicked off in the Admiral’s Cup and asked him about the varied roles of a Tactician when racing inshore and offshore.

Margot van der Poel joined Gordon Ketelbey’s Zen 52 Racing team three years ago, after several years as a protégé of Ian McDiarmid. Her hard work and commitment has been rewarded with a position on the CYCA Admiral’s Cup campaign. In this interview, recorded before the Admiral’s Cup racing commenced, Margot explains her sailing background and her role as Offside Pit aboard Zen.

The Admiral’s Cup 2025 | Tom Barker Interview

CYCA Director Tom Barker is sailing aboard Gordon Ketelbey’s TP52 Zen. Typically, Tom would be the navigator aboard Zen, but that pressure is now on the shoulders of renowned ocean racing navigator Tom Addis for the Admiral’s Cup. Tom is a trimmer on Zen supporting Alex Gough and in this catch-up that we had just prior to the Channel Race, Tom talks about his role on the boat and his prior experience of sailing in the Solent and UK waters.

The Admiral’s Cup 2025 | Dan Williams and Mark Langford Interview

Mark Langford and Dan Williams have both been racing with Gordon Ketelbey for some time now, including competing on Gordon’s Farr 40 and Sydney 38. On Gordon’s TP52 Zen, Mark is responsible for Runners and Dan runs the Pit. Shortly before the Channel Race which kicked off the Admiral’s Cup, the pair talked with us about their respective roles on the boat and their prior experience of racing in the Solent.
